When we introduced the new intent report, we got some positive feedback on the trends aspect and the correlation chat playground.
However, we were unhappy with the flow of the report, while we added more data points, the story of the report was not coming out.
To correct this, we have an improved flow and some more interesting ways to show the data points and derive some valuable insights.
The key points of highlights are as below:
One of the key observations we had on the use of the intent report so far was that the actual questions were more powerful than the visual interaction which almost seems like a distraction. We have now present more questions, doubts in an easy to read data table that is also "screenshot-able".
The other thing is that we have added the correlated keywords also into this view to make it more easy to understand how the different search phrases interact with the core keyword. You can still click the trend icon on any of them and enter into a visual trends chart pop up.
This section puts focus on categories, which we think is a key hierarchal piece that the current view does not do just to. The category treemap allows you to see the how search phrases are thematically related. On clicking a category, we can also see a 2x2 of the keywords within it. The 2 axis's of the chart are: Keyword Volume & Opportunity. Opportunity is the inverse of a competitiveness index. The lesser the competition, the more is the whitespace and headroom for a brand to own that consumer intent.
In continuation to the above, another way to group keywords is by clustering them. The clustering happens in terms of semantic distance. Which is just to say that keywords that mean the same thing or describe similar attributes, then they would be clustered closer to each other and phrases that talk about different things are more far apart. This allows you to visual the keywords like a map.
Besides, these 3 key additions, the overall report gets a bit of an uplift and a more natural top to down flow that moves from top level insights and ends with the actual keyword table, which is controllable by the chart filters, so that the user can effortlessly flow into pre-flight if required.
