We aimed to tackle a few key issues with the aim of improving our global navigation:
Cleaner Interface: Our goal was to streamline the interface to make it more visually appealing, with fewer options visible immediately. This helps make the Omnibox the focal point and enhances its relevance.
Mode Selection: We sought to facilitate easy switching between 'Insights' and 'Action' modes for users, regardless of their location within the platform.
Organizational Hierarchy: It was important for us to present the organizational structure and portfolios in a clearer, more organized manner.
In the provided screenshot, you'll notice we've consolidated several controls into a single dropdown. This creates a clear hierarchy, with portfolios neatly categorized under their respective organizations. The final column is dedicated to mode or page selection, allowing users to easily navigate to their desired section of the platform. Additionally, users can set a default page for each organization, which automatically directs them to their chosen landing page upon selection.
At the top of the global navigation dropdown, there are quick-access buttons that allow for the instant creation of new elements from any page and direct navigation to the platform's management section.
This updated feature brings multiple advantages:
Simplified Homepage: It declutters the homepage, removing extraneous components that previously competed for attention with the Omnibox.
Efficient Navigation: Opening the global navigation now focuses the cursor directly on the organization search box, streamlining the process of searching for and selecting an organization.
Increased Screen Real Estate: The redesigned global navigation provides additional space where we can incorporate more controls, like a hard refresh or OAuth, without overwhelming the interface.
With these changes, our platform becomes more user-friendly, allowing for quicker, more intuitive navigation and a cleaner overall user experience.
